PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Buying an LCD monitor in today's market is more like going to a grocery store rather than a specialty purchase only a few short years ago. With a selection that can and will confuse even the most seasoned tech aficionado, where does one start? How to your hone down the choice to the one you want?
To simplify things today, the Syncmaster T240 being reviewed today would not be average consumer's pick as an introductory model. It is larger than most consumer's need, has additional functionality such as full 1920x1200 resolution, HD HDMI connectivity, includes a USB 2.0 hub and does all this while keeping the price very competitively set at about US$350.
But is this monitor worth skipping the introductory smaller LCD monitor step and get a decent large LCD monitor right from the start and not worrying about upgrading later? Does this large monitor game well and how does this monitor perform after extended testing over several months?
What can TFT LCD Technology do for me?
Below is just a small list of what TFT LCD technology can do for your small business or home environment.
1.) Radiation - TFT LCD technology virtually eliminates radiation which is emitted from normal CRT monitor and can promote a healthier computing environment for your children at home and/or your work environment.
2.) Low Power Consumption - LCD monitors have a power consumption of about half of the equivalent CRT monitors.
3.) Colour - Colours on LCD's are much more vibrant that CRT monitors.
4.) Physical Size - One of the main advantages is the size difference. LCD monitors cover about 30% of the desk area than a standard CRT.
5.) Viewable Area - Now here is the kicker, if you buy a 17" CRT monitor, it's safe to say that you will have an actual viewing area of about ~16". Now, when a TFT LCD is said to be 17", the viewable area IS 17", which is a far more honest approach to marketing.
